Easy Fall and Halloween Makeup Looks

Posted on October 29, 2018March 30, 2020 by Maddie

I don’t know about you, but now that the weather is changing, all I want to do is stay inside. Luckily, that gives me more time to play with products! For this post, I’ve created two easy fall makeup looks that you can wear everyday, and two Halloween makeup looks for those who need some last-minute inspiration.

Easy-Fall-Makeup-Looks-Halloween-Makeup-Looks-Fall-Glam | Toronto Beauty Reviews

{Easy Fall and Halloween Makeup Looks}

Disclaimer: I received the products marked with an asterisk at no charge for editorial consideration. All opinions are my own.

Changing up your makeup routine can be daunting, especially when you feel that you have to buy new products that you’ll only be using a few times. So for the fall and Halloween makeup looks below, I’ve tried to re-use as many products as possible. Hopefully, this will give you an idea of how versatile some products can be, and which ones will allow you to save money and try out the most looks!

Fall Makeup Looks

For these two makeup applications, I’ve focused on autumnal colours that can work well for a variety of skin tones.

To begin each look, cleanse and moisturize your skin, including an eye primer. Then apply foundation and concealer as you would normally, and complete prep with a brow pencil or gel as needed.

Products I’ve used throughout these looks are:

  • Eye cream: Veriphy 20/20 Eye Cream* ($82)
  • Moisturizer: Veriphy Self-Absorbed Moisturizer*($85)
  • Eyebrow pencil: Caryl Baker Visage Precision Brow Pencil in Brunette* ($21.60)
  • Foundation: CoverGirl TruBlend Matte Made in L80* ($12.99)
  • Concealer: Rodial Diamond Concealer in Shade 10* ($60)
  • Mascara: Lise Watier V Element Mascara* ($27)
  • Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Born to Run Eyeshadow Palette* ($59)

Easy-Fall-Makeup-Looks-Halloween-Makeup-Looks-Pumpkin-Pie | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Fall Makeup Look #1: “Easy as Pumpkin Pie”

This looks is one of my favourites, since it shows that wearing bold eyeshadow colours doesn’t have to be scary! Orange-peachy eyeshadows are perfect for fall, and look especially fabulous against blue or green eyes.

Additional products used: Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Bronze Age ($10.50), Revlon Ultra HD Matte in HD Seduction ($9.95), Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Prosecco Pop ($46)

How to create this look:

  • Warm up the tone of your cheekbones, the sides of your forehead, and your neck by applying a bronzer
  • Apply a peach blush to the apples of your cheeks
  • Eyes:
    • Using the Born to Run palette, brush Weekender over the entire lid and brow bone as a base
    • Apply Still Shot over eyelid, extending slightly past crease to accentuate eye shape as desired
    • Add Baja in outer corner, blending inwards towards the middle of your eyelid
    • Wet your eyeshadow brush and apply Baja to lower eyelid
    • Apply a small wing of eyeliner to upper lid
    • Trace eyeliner along lower lid and waterline, joining up with wing in outer corner
    • Apply mascara
  • Finish off cheekbones, bridge of nose, and inner corner of eyes with a dusting of highlighter
  • Apply lipstick

Easy-Fall-Makeup-Looks-Halloween-Makeup-Looks-Day-to-Night | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Fall Makeup Look #2: “Day-to-Night”

Metallic eyes are a huge trend right now, and are much more versatile than you might think. This look, for example, can be toned down for work, or glammed up in mere minutes, thanks to Stila’s liquid eyeshadow formula!

Additional products used: Stila Cosmetics Vivid & Vibrant Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Vivid Garnet* ($31), Revlon Ultra HD Matte in HD Seduction, Annabelle Retractable Eyeliner in Peacock ($10.50)

How to create this look (Daytime version):

  • Place a swipe or two of Vivid Garnet on your hand, then gently dab onto eyelids and into crease, using your fingertip
  • Layer as needed to get your desired sheerness
  • Draw small winged eyeliner from your outer corners
  • Line the outer half of your lower lid with eyeliner, smudging slightly with your fingertip
  • Apply mascara
  • Apply lipstick

How to create this look (Nighttime version):

  • Use applicator to swipe an additional layer of Vivid Garnet directly onto eyelid, keeping eye closed for a few seconds to allow the product to dry
  • Using Born to Run palette, apply Hell Ride to crease and lower brow bone, blending inwards
  • Apply Jet to outer corner, mixing with Hell Ride for seamless transition
  • Use same brush to apply Jet/Hell Ride mix to lower lid, creating a smoky eye effect
  • Apply a layer of clear gloss over lips
  • Apply a second coat of mascara

Halloween Makeup Looks

If you’re still looking for a Halloween costume idea, chances are you’re not someone who already has a cabinet stocked with liquid latex and other specialist supplies. So I’ve created these two Halloween makeup looks using everyday makeup products to help you make the most of your office party, trick-or-treating, or school event, without having to spend a ton of extra money or spend hours watching YouTube tutorials.

Easy-Fall-Makeup-Looks-Halloween-Makeup-Looks-Fairy-Makeup | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Halloween Makeup Look #1: Fairy

Whether or not you have (or want to get) all the products I’ve listed below, this look is pretty foolproof. As long as you’ve got glitter and shimmer, particularly around your eyes, the message will get across. Change around the colours depending on what your outfit is, throw on a tiara and a pair of wings, and you’re all set!

Additional products used: Revlon Colorstay Crème Eye Shadow in Black Currant ($9.50), Winky Lux Kitten Palette ($32.75)  Annabelle Cosmetics Chrome Cream Single Eyeshadow in Silver* ($8.99), Nyx Cosmetics Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder in Lavender Steel ($12.99)  Esquido mink eyelashes in Lash Named Desire* ($29), CoverGirl Melting Pout Glitz Liquid Glitter Topcoat in Double Platinum ($10.99), Nyx Cosmetics Faux Whites in Mint Cream ($10.00)

Note: My gorgeous circlet headpiece is made by the incredible Canadian bridal company Davie & Chiyo. I had it woven into my hair when I was a bridesmaid at my sister’s wedding, and I felt absolutely magical all day. So I thought I’d channel that magic for this fairy look!

How to create this look:

  • Eyes
    • Using Kitten palette, apply Purr over entire eyelid and brow bone, extending to temples
    • Using Born to Run palette, blend Hell Ride into crease, exaggerating eye shape
    • Dab Colorstay in Black Currant onto eyelid with your fingertip
    • Blend Annabelle Chrome in Silver on temples and under eye area
    • Apply mascara, then false lashes
    • Use white eyeliner on waterline to brighten eyes even further
  • Lips
    • Swipe on a few coats of pink lipstick
    • Using fingertip, dab glitter topcoat on lower lip and cupid’s bow
  • Instead of usual highlighter, pack Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder on bridge of nose, under eyebrows, in inner corner of eyes, etc.

Easy-Fall-Makeup-Looks-Halloween-Makeup-Looks-Mrs-Lovett | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Halloween Look #2: Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd

The great thing about this makeup look is that it can be used as the base for almost any stereotypically creepy Halloween character. Skeleton? Sure! Wednesday Addams? Absolutely! Steampunk? Go for it! Victorian Goth is a quick and simple look that is fun to do and looks great in pictures. You really can’t go wrong as long as you’re smudging deep browns and blacks around your eyes and cheekbones. And for Mrs. Lovett, of course, the finishing touch is to tease your hair like crazy and walk around threatening to put people in pies. 🙂

Additional products used: Ben Nye MagiCake in Cloud White ($15.75), Revlon Ultra HD Matte in HD Seduction

How to create this look:

  • Forego your normal foundation and concealer
  • Apply lipstick
  • Face:
    • Apply MagiCake or extra-light foundation to whiten skin, including lips
    • Using Born to Run palette, apply Good as Gone and Jet to darken eyebrows
    • Instead of your usual bronzer or contour stick, apply Punk to sides of nose, temples, underneath cheekbones, and jawline.
      • Be sure to exaggerate your skeletal structure by drawing triangles towards the hollow of your cheeks and along your temples
    • Blend out Punk contour with Riff
  • Eyes:
    • Apply Weekender to entire eye area, including under-eye
    • Blend Good as Gone into each side of the bridge of nose and into the outer corners of top and bottom lids, layering to produce splotchy effect
    • Wet eyeliner brush and apply Jet or Punk as eyeliner
    • Intensify dark under-eye circles by dabbing Guilt Trip with fingertip
    • Line bottom lid with Hell Ride
    • Apply mascara
  • Lips:
    • Dab Good as Gone around lip line to distort shape slightly
    • Finish by applying a touch of Stranded to middle of bottom lip and cupid’s bow
    • (Optional: Use black food gel to line insides of lips and coat teeth, for extra grunge)

Celebrating our best boy’s birthday with a custom Celebrating our best boy’s birthday with a custom sensitive-tummy-approved cake from @jujulet! Cause life’s too short not to mark special occasions 🐶❤️🎂

I can’t believe @guster_dog is already 6! 😭❤️❤️

The cake is made of pumpkin, sweet potato, spinach, and carrot. The “frosting” is potato cream mixed with natural colorings. Gluten-free and lactose-free with lots of healthy veggies means Guster can enjoy his special treat and we don’t have to worry about his health. 🥳

The cake is truly a work of art, and - as you can see - Guster definitely approves of the taste! He ate the sculpture of himself so fast that we didn’t even catch it on camera! 🙈

Would you get a cake for your pet?

Hi! 👋🏼 I’m still here! I’m sorry I haven’t posted Hi! 👋🏼 I’m still here! I’m sorry I haven’t posted much. I’m finding it a bit hard, tbh. 🫤

I’m figuring out what the next phase of #TorontoBeautyReviews looks like and healing from an injury, while my 9-5 has lately been more like 7-7, so I’m filling my off hours with family, dance, food, and books. Finding joy and peace where I can in an intense world. ❤️

I still try out lots of products and I do occasionally paint my face 🙃. I’m just not as interested in the grind of daily posts just for the sake of staying relevant anymore. Which has meant that I’m not on as many PR lists as I used to be. Which means that I don’t have as much new stuff to review. It’s a cycle.

Things are shifting, which is tough sometimes. But it’s ok - so am I. 😊

How is this type of thing still happening, even in the age of AI? If a high-tech “smart tool” can’t properly recognize and accommodate diverse skin tones, then it needs further development and should not yet be released. End of story.
