Getting the Celeb Treatment at TIFF 2018

Posted on September 17, 2018September 16, 2018 by Maddie

While it may have a reputation for being more relaxed than some of its counterparts around the globe, the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) still brings its share of glitz and glamour to our city for the first two weeks of September. I was lucky enough to get the celeb treatment at this year’s #SDMbeauTIFFul suite, courtesy of Shoppers Drug Mart and eOne Entertainment.

Disclaimer: This experience was provided to me at no cost for editorial consideration. All opinions are my own.

Though I didn’t have any actual red carpets to walk down (though, mentally, I treat every sidewalk like a runway), I got to experience the full celeb treatment at Shoppers Drug Mart’s TIFF beauty suite, including:

  • A Silk’n skin treatment
  • Makeup
  • Hairstyling
  • Manicure

Celeb Treatment for TIFF 2018 - Silkn Titan | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Silk’n Skin Treatment

Makeup and hair trends may change from year to year, but glowing skin is always a must! At the #SDMbeauTIFFul lounge, I got the chance to try a Silk’n Titan treatment, which gave me a celeb-worthy, healthy glow in just 30 minutes.

The Titan is a skin rejuvenation tool that tightens and repairs sagging skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. While it may look a bit intimidating, it’s actually quite easy to use, feels amazing and has no downtime post-treatment.

Essentially, the Titan is a hand-held electronic device that uses 3 sources of energy (bi-polar radio frequency, red LED light, and infrared heat) to stimulate the dermis layer of skin. There, it gently warms the skin cells to 42 degrees Celcius, activating their natural renewal process and restoring the density of collagen and elastin. With just one use, my skin was incredibly soft, and my glow was undeniable. I was quite red afterwards, but I felt no irritation or discomfort, and the redness faded in a few minutes. I can’t wait to see what my skin looks like after a few weeks of Titan treatments!

Looking to pick one up for yourself? I won’t lie: at $299, the Silk’n Titan is not cheap. But, for the price of about 3 facials, you’re getting an incredibly powerful tool that can get you medi-spa results in the comfort of your own home, without injections or painful procedures. If you’re on the fence, just check out the many before & after pictures from customers who have used the Titan for the full 10-week treatment period – the results are pretty impressive.

Celeb Treatment for TIFF 2018 - Look 2 | Toronto Beauty Reviews

My TIFF Beauty Look

Makeup at this year’s festival was a bit subtler than in years past. While some stars still opted for a bold smoky eye or bright lip, many celebs rocked a softer glam look for TIFF 2018. We saw a lot of metallic eyeshadows, some in unexpected raspberry or violet hues, and many nude/neutral lips. I decided to echo these trends with my TIFF beauty look, opting for gold and rose gold colours with romantic lashes.

For hair, we went with a relaxed take on Old Hollywood. My stylist brushed out curls to create luscious waves, pinning a 2” side section to the nape of my neck to enhance the movement of the style. A subtle boost of shimmer via a rose gold manicure was the perfect way to finish off this elegant TIFF look!

This makeup, hairstyle, and manicure made me feel pampered and fabulous, but also very comfortable. I jokingly called my look “Retro Milennial”; the perfect balance of playful on-trend metallics and classic glamour.

Celeb Treatment for TIFF 2018 - Key Products | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Products of note: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Urban Decay Born to Run palette, Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Kitten, Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Cloud, Quo lashes in Glamour, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Phyto Phytomillesime Mist

I had so much fun getting the full celeb treatment at the #SDMbeauTIFFul suite! If you want to recreate my style, you can grab all of the products at your local Shoppers.

And that’s a wrap on TIFF 2018! What was your favourite red carpet look?

  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon
