A Tropical Staycation

Posted on April 20, 2020April 19, 2020 by Maddie

Now that many of us are in Week 4 of social distancing, our homes might be starting to feel a bit like a cage. But, of course, nonessential travel isn’t an option right now. So I’ve rounded up some products to help you get the feel of a luxurious beach weekend, without even needing to pack. Bring on the tropical staycation!

{A Tropical Staycation: Products to Help Bring a Getaway to You}

Disclaimer: I received the products below at no charge for editorial consideration. All opinions are my own.

A staycation will look different for everyone, of course. We all have different needs during this tough time, and I want to acknowledge that many of us are experiencing financial hardship in addition to physical and mental health challenges. But if you’re looking to do some online shopping, the products I’ve listed below will help your skin get the look and feel of a tropical vacay without breaking quarantine.

These photos were taken just 4 hours apart!

Beettan Self Tanning Lotion

Being a ginger means being very aware of the sun’s harmful rays. While there are definitely a range of sunless tanners on the market to help get some colour without actually tanning, many are filled with toxic chemicals or give your skin a Doritos-like hue. For the perfect tropical staycation tan, however, my pick is Beettan Self Tanning Lotion ($69.99). This innovative product gives you a natural-looking tan that will actually help firm and hydrate your skin, thanks to its combination of sugar beets, caffeine extract, kukui nut oil, and niacinamide!

Application is a breeze – just apply as you would any other lotion. The tanner absorbs well into the skin, and the color will develop over the course of a few hours, leaving a tropical, coconutty smell behind. With one coat, I look as though I’ve spent a week on a tropical beach, without any of the skin damage. But if you’re looking for a darker tan, simply apply another layer!

Another reason that I love this product? It’s paraben-free, vegan, and cruelty-free. The perfect guilt-free glow. Check out Beettan’s Instagram page for a really helpful application demo from Beettan founder Michelle Peth.

Psst! For a limited time, this product is 50% OFF!! Use the code 50off at checkout. While supplies last.

Lavido Age Away Replenishing Cream

Since I’ve been staying inside so much, my skin has been dry and uncomfortably tight. But with just a few applications of Lavido’s Age Away Replenishing Cream ($106.65), my face has become glowing and soft! This rich, silky cream feels incredibly luxurious, and is a fabulous way to finish off a tropical staycation skincare routine. After application, my skin feels refreshed and pampered. I love applying it at night with a facial massage for a true spa-like experience.

This powerhouse cream is packed with skin-enhancing ingredients like summer snowflake (slows down the aging process and increases cellular regeneration), hyaluronic acid (hydrates and firms), and Melissa and avocado oils (decrease wrinkle depth). What’s equally impressive is what it’s formulated without: no mineral oil, petroleum, silicones, parabens, synthetic dyes or fragrance, animal products, or SLS! Like all Lavido products, the Age Away Replenishing Cream is also cruelty-free and is clinically tested to ensure efficacy.

Soap & Glory Call of Fruity Collection

S&G has long been one of my drugstore favourites. I’m a sucker for good packaging, and their retro-inspired visuals and punny product names always catch my eye. I also love their affordable price point and wide range of products. And Soap & Glory’s newest collection, Call of Fruity, is the perfect body care range to bring your tropical staycation to life!

Each product in the range contains the Call of Fruity fragrance – a heavenly mix of hibiscus, cantaloupe, and cedarwood. The products each have slightly different formulas and properties, however, depending on their use. From mango and coconut oils to hydrate, to jojoba balls for exfoliation, this collection will have you feeling pampered in no time.

My two favourites are the Summer Scrubbin’ body scrub ($18), and the Bubble In Paradise body wash ($16). Use them as a one-two tropical punch in the shower for incredibly smooth and deliciously fragrant skin. Other items in the Call of Fruity collection include The Way She Smoothes body lotion ($16), No Woman No Dry body butter ($18), and Hand Food hand cream ($10).

With a sunless tan, a fruit-and-flower-scented body care routine, and a luxurious face cream, you’ll never want your tropical staycation to end!

What would be in your virtual beach bag for your tropical staycation?

  • Happy NYE, folks! For those who had a great 2022, cheers a fab end to a fab year. To those for whom 2022 was not so great - toast to a new beginning! Either way, hopefully you’re able to find a moment for gratitude and comfort tonight. ✨❤️ Wearing: @ardellbeauty Magnetic Megahold lashes* @cheekbonebeauty Sustain complexion pencils* 1, 2, and 6 + Sustain eye pencil in green turquoise @lorealparis Brow Stylist Frame & Set in 214 @cbvisage lipliner in Rescue Me *Products kindly gifted —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #ardellholiday #cheekbonebeauty #crueltyfreemakeup #carylbakervisage #redhead #torontopr #torontomakeup #nyemakeup #holidaymakeup #simpleglam #tbrcontributors #bye2022
  • ✨ REST IS PRODUCTIVE ✨ @adam__malek got me this sticker for Christmas, and I genuinely cried when I saw it. I need the reminder. The idea that productivity = self-worth is so damaging, and one that is often marketed heavily in the new year. I struggle with the “I haven’t been busy enough to deserve a rest - guess I’ll just take on too many projects and then revenge procrastinate because of burnout and get no sleep, then scramble and feel like I need to do even more!” cycle. I feel compelled to list everything I’ve done on the weekend

  • This is a long video, and a change from our typical content, but it’s something I really wanted to hear your thoughts on. Did this sports team miss an opportunity? Was my student’s question too tough or unrealistic? We still had lots of fun at the pep rally, but the rewording of this question really bugged me. Is “follow your dreams” a satisfying answer in this case? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #womeninsports #feminist #sexism #aagpbl #domore #mlb #sexisminsport #likeagirl #femaleathlete #foodforthought #bluejays #tbjwintertour #torontobluejays
