Spring Favourites 2019

Posted on May 23, 2019March 30, 2020 by DJS

Spring sure is taking its time to show up this year, but that just gives you more time to get your skin on point before the intense effects of summer! I have come across some great skincare products over the past few months, and wanted to share some of my Spring favourites with you.

{DJS’ Spring Favourites 2019}

Disclaimer: I received the products below at no cost for editorial consideration. All opinions are my own.

Recently, I’ve tried a variety of products from several different brands. Read on to find out a bit more about the brands themselves and the items I enjoyed the most this season.

DJS' Spring Favourites 2019 - Face Masks | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Mask for Masc?

I don’t often hear my male friends talk about using face masks, or even about getting professional facials on a regular basis. Over the past few months, however, I have been using two masks from Image Skincare and one from Kariderm. As I continue to explore anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products, these masks have been a great addition to my skincare routine.

I seldom get comments on my skin, but, at a dinner party a week ago, a fellow guest asked what I was doing to make my skin look so good. A few hours before heading out, I had used the Kariderm Regenerating Mask ($25.95)! This clay-based mask contains ginseng and shea butter to give the skin a firm feeling and a healthy glow. The fact that Kariderm is fair trade, cruelty-free, and uses recycled materials in their packaging makes using their products even more satisfying.

The Image Skincare masks are of similarly high quality and have great fragrances. The I MASK Purifying Probiotic Mask ($80) is packed with yogurt-based probiotics and charcoal – plus superfruits like acai and pomegranate – to detoxify the skin and restore its healthy balance. And the dramatic green colour makes it even more fun! The I MASK Firming Transformation Mask ($96) is a great compliment to its probiotic companion. It uses ingredients like hyaluronic acid and jojoba beads to gently exfoliate and tighten the skin’s surface. Like all Image Skincare products, these masks are available at select local spas, as well as on Amazon.

As we all know, one of the best things about face masks is how fun they are to do with friends. I took the three masks with me to a weekend getaway to Prince Edward County with two of my girlfriends. We liked the fragrances, we liked the glow and smoothness, and we liked caring for our skin while playing board games!

Now that I’ve added face masks to my routine, next on my list is a bubbling charcoal mask like the one Maddie tried a few weeks ago!

DJS' Spring Favourites 2019 - Thursday Plantation | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Tea Tree Oil

Aside from the face masks, I’ve also been using some great products from Thursday Plantation. My Spring favourites from this Australian brand are the face wipes, the oil, and the medicated gel.

I carry the Tea Tree Face Wipes ($12.99) with me in my backpack. They’re easily portable, so I love using them to freshen up on the go. They’re particularly great if I’ve been sweating or have had to teach a Gym class I wasn’t expecting to teach!

One of the benefits of tea tree oil is that it’s antibacterial. Since it can fight fungus that can live at the gym, I use the 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil ($7.99) on my toes. The little bottle is easy to carry, it dispenses easily, and works really well.

Lately, I’ve been getting the odd breakout on my nose, so having the Medicated Gel for Acne ($10.99) has made me so happy. I applied the gel daily as soon as I noticed a pimple, and the blemish was gone after three days. Since then, I’ve been applying it every other night to fight future eruptions.

Thursday Plantation has been around for almost forty years. They’re cruelty-free, source their tea tree oil sustainably, and don’t use SLS, parabens, or harsh detergents in their products. Thursday Planation products are available for purchase online at and at many health and wellness stores.

DJS' Spring Favourites 2019 - Cerave SA Cleanser | Toronto Beauty Reviews

Face Wash

Another Spring favourite that has earned a valued place in my shower is CeraVe‘s new face wash. I’ve been using their Renewing SA Cleanser ($15.99) daily, and I really like its smooth texture, as well as the fact that it’s unscented and leaves my skin feeling really clean.

The cleanser contains no microbeads, but rather gently exfoliates using salicylic acid. CeraVe products can be purchased a drugstores nationwide.

As we move to warmer temperatures, I’m feeling ready to face (pun intended) the sunny days of summer with healthy-looking skin, thanks to my favourite Spring products.

  • Trying out @fentyskin’s Cookies & Clean Detox Face Mask! I love a good mask, and goodness knows my skin needs a bit of help nowadays! ➡️This is one of the products I featured in my blog post about Black-owned beauty brands. I love that it’s not too drying, makes my skin feel refreshed, is cruelty-free, and is part of the Clean at Sephora collection! Have you checked out anything from Fenty Beauty or Fenty Skin? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #blackownedbeauty #blackownedbusinesses #cleanskincare #fentyskin #cleanatsephora #claymask #charcoalmask #crueltyfree #crueltyfreeskincare #crueltyfreebeauty #torontopr #torontoblogger #selfcaresunday #skincareroutine #skincarejunkie #skincarelover #cleanskin
  • Fresh nails for Spring! This was my first time getting a dip powder mani. It was so interesting! Apparently it’ll last about 3-4 weeks. I like that I didn’t have to cure the nails with a UV lamp, and that there was less filing than with biogel. I decided not to go with extensions today, but that’s an option as well. So far I’m a fan! Do you prefer shellac, bio-gel, dip, or natural nails? —————————————————————————— #torontobeautyreviews #mytbrfave #tbrcontributors #springmani #dippowdernails #dipmanicure #toronto #torontonails #torontopr #dipnails #nailinspo #bluenails #shortnails #opidippowder #organicnailbar #organicnailbarto #kingwest #freshnails #nailstagram #simplenails #nailsalon

  • I got Botox! (Technically, I got Nuceiva, which is a different brand of neuromodulator, but does the same thing) I’ve been feeling uncomfortable with the fine lines on my forehead, and wanted to try out neuromodulators! It was easier and much less painful than I anticipated, but definitely was a bit of an emotional journey. ➡️ I got 24 units during this visit, at a cost of $11 each. (Cost will vary depending on brand of neuromodulator, the clinic you choose, and the person who does the treatment) ➡️ This treatment will probably last around 3 months, and then will
